| Things to Consider before Adoption |
| Time |
Do you have time to excercise and train a pet? |
Male or Female |
This may be a consideration if you already have a pet. |
Daily Exercise |
Research the activity of the pet with your lifestyle. |
| Children |
Children must be a critical component in your decision. |
Hair/ Allergies |
Consider the hair and shedding issues with this new pet. |
| Experience |
A must for assertive breeds. First timers, begin with easy. |
| Looks |
Although, we may need to fall in love, you can't tell a book by it's cover with animals. |
| Money |
Do you have the financial means to properly care for a pet. |

| What kind of Dog Do I Want? |
Sporting Breeds |
Bred to hunt with man. Trainable, active, and happy. Untrained, they may chew, run and can be as sensitive as a brick. |
| Hounds |
Use eyes and nose to pursue game animals. Active, friendly, and comical dogs. Untrained they may chew, howl, and be very hard to housebreak. |
| Terries |
Created to hunt down and kill vermin. They are often feisty, lively, and self-assured. Untrained they can be aggressive, barky and disobedient. |
| Toy Dogs |
Bred to be companions. Sweet, smart and devoted. Untrained can become snappy and hard to housebreak. |
Working Dogs |
Intelligent, trainable and territorial. With direction, experience and activity they make first rate companions. Untrained they can be aggressive and disobedient. |
Herding Dogs |
Similar to working dogs. With direction, experience and activity they make first-rate companions. Untrained they have a Tendency toward shyness and nipping at heels. |
Puppy or Adult |
Adult dogs are the best-kept secret of dog ownership. Most adult dogs bond quickly to their new homes. Adult dogs can arrive in your home with little or no adjustment period. Pups can be a lot of fun, however do require a considerable amount of time and patience to be trained. |
First-time owners should stay away from the tough, territorial breeds. |
