Local Independent Charities of America

The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.

Obedience Makes A Difference!

Our goal in offering these classes is to improve the bonds of co-operation, trust, and love that you experience with your dog. We hope to help you learn the skills required to better communicate and lead your dog in becoming a treasured family member and good canine citizen. We do not offer any magic pills or wave any magic wands to achieve this end. Successful dog training requires time, commitment, and patience from the humans involved. A well behaved dog does not often “just happen”. It is lifetime process. A great dog is the result of great owners. We hope that we can set you on the path to becoming a great owner and help your dog reach their full potential.

Remember- “don’t just complain – TRAIN”

Dogs are smart and can learn, no matter what the age! At the completion of the 8 week course, your dog will receive his or her diploma at a graduation celebration.

If your dog is not socialized with people or other dogs, needs work walking on a leash, jumps, barks or any other issues, our training class can make a difference.

Puppy Kindergarten: Puppies will have fun socializing with new dogs and people. It promotes good puppy behavior with positive training philosophies and techniques. Introduction to basic obedience and confidence building exercises which create a solid foundation for life.

Primary Class (Basic): A more structured approach to becoming a better family member. Teaching basic commands and addressing most canine problem behaviors.

Graduate Class: Builds on and refines all the commands learned in Basic Obedience. Prepares them for the Canine Good Neighbor or AKC Canine Good Citizen test. Requirements for this class; must be reliable on all the basic commands prior to enrolling.

SCHEDULE

The Humane Society’s new Patti Brown Educational/Training Room was designed for Obedience classes. We limit our class size to 10 pets and their owners. Classes will be held on a weekday evening at 6:30 pm for 8 weeks. The first week is for owners only. The cost is $90 and we accept cash, check, Mastercard or Visa. If the class is filled an additional class is usually scheduled for another time. If the dog was adopted from the Humane Society a $10 discount would be applied for the first class you and your dog attend—good for 1 year after adoption.
